This Is It
My whole life I've been afraid of uncertainty. When I was young I was terrified to go anywhere or do anything on my own. I was terrified of failing or being alone. In adulthood I've tried to manage these fears by becoming motivated to get the things I want and do things I really want to do. While I feel that I've been successful so far it's been with the help of many close friends and family. I've made sure that even if I fail I will have something to fall back on. It's this security of a "something" that has become bothersome. I feel that I rely too heavily on the actions of others, so, in an effort to reach full independence and maturity I am removing myself from everything I know.
The transplant destination is the City of Angels... Los Angeles, California. If you're new to this blog and to me you're probably assuming at this point that I'm an actor looking to move to Hollywood and get my big break but I assure you that is not who I am. I am not moving to L.A. to pursue an acting career or to chase celebrities or to find any kind of wealth whatsoever. Los Angeles is a city evolving like no other in terms of urbanity. It is the first true polycentric city and lessons for the weaving of the future urban fabric of America can be learned there.
I am an Architect and nothing more. L.A. is modern America, therefore, the rest of the nation follows suit and it is for this reason alone I am dedicating myself to the its study. Some of the most brilliant minds in the world make their way to Southern California and it is my intent to learn from them and return with something to offer.
With that; I open my education to you. My intent behind this blog is to learn everything I possibly can about Los Angeles before I get there. From the best places to live and work, right down to the best place to buy a can of beans or bag of rice.
No advice will be ignored or considered irrelevant so I urge you to discuss anything about the city you might know.
Drop me a line and I guarantee that if you don't get a response your advice will be taken to heart and at the very least be put into a forum where someone else will find it useful.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Dominic Filosa
