Summer Fires

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I grew up in Colorado where we had occasional fires in the summer. Once when I was a kid there was a huge fire that burned up an entire mountain. 20 years later it's still mostly bare and the burned tree stumps can still be seen. Back in 2002 there was a fire started accidentally by a park ranger burning her divorce papers. I think it ended up being the biggest in Colorado history and for the better part of a month it turned the skies above Denver this weird orange color and no matter where you went you couldn't get away from that camp fire smell.

Now I live in Los Angeles and it seems as though fires are just a part of life here. Granted, I don't have a TV so I don't know how much the fire near Glendale is being reported but it doesn't seem to be the big deal the fires back home were. Yesterday I was driving home with dog and over the Hollywood hills I spotted what looked like an enormous thunder head. Back where I'm from thunder heads are a normal summer occurrence and at first I just thought, "Oh, some rain will be nice". But then I remembered I live in a desert and they don't get thunder clouds here... "What the fuck is that thing?!!"

If you look between the palm trees in the picture below you can just make out the Hollywood sign. The fires are about 20 miles away.

the new economy

I hate to admit it because I had the audacity to think that maybe Dom Filosa was recession proof. But, alas, he is not.

I am pending an imminent layoff. I was hired for a specific job that required my skill set. That job has since disappeared. I have to give it to my employer to give me an opportunity to try and maintain my employment but, in the end, they cannot.

I love and will miss those guys. Without them I would have never been able to move to LA and I'll never forget it. I pray they have prosperous times ahead.

Here's one to going out on my own for the first time!

Godspeed.

Mr. Goldblum

My coworker Jim mentioned a while back that about five years ago he would often see Jeff Goldblum at his gym and out of the hundreds of people there he was the only one who worked out with his shirt off (and continuously stared at himself in the mirror).

Well, this morning I was leaving the weight room and I see Mr. Goldblum sitting on the end of a bench doing dumbell curls while staring at himself in the mirror. He did have a shirt on but I like to see that he hasn't changed much.

Entourage. Episode 8

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Coming up in a couple Entourage episodes (HBO, Sunday nights) is one of our (my boss') clients that I've had the most one-on-one contact with (without my boss). He's a playwrite and very talented writer and I think he might be the character to sum up the 6th season of Entourage. It remains to be seen. I hope they feature his home in the coming episodes. If they do, the bbq I designed will stick out like a sore thumb in the background.

Hooray Hollywood!

TRON

I'm not a crazy movie freak or anything but I grew up with the movie Tron just like any other child of the 1980s. Well, guess what? They're remaking it and it looks totally awesome (thanks to Jeff Daniels and a rad score)!!!

A couple months ago my Basenji dog parking friend Brian told me he was making the costumes for the new TRON and I guess at the time I didn't know the caliber of his work... The suits look fucking awesome!

Sometimes I search craigslist just to see if I can find anything weird or humorous. Today I found the hilarious post below. If you're looking for itch-free rope this is your guy.

I have two - hundred foot ropes - if not longer - about an inch in diameter and about 30 pounds each - moving must sell.

you can use them for anchoring and securing yourself or something of yours...

or maybe you are just a pirate and need some decorations.

I don't think this is the professional climbing rope, and it's too thick for bondage - but you could pull a tree down or tow a car...
would be excellent for a tire swing tho if you braced the part from the tree with rubber so it lasts over time.

brand new - must sell.

make an offer - must sell.

available tomorrow any time - must sell.

noon to 2 would be best - in eastern culver city - must sell.

Leave your number - see link below - must sell.

No - they don't itch - 250 online wholesale - must sell - make offer.

craigslist makes me resize my photos from my cell - how weird. So I started a myspace cause I have ALOT to sell. Tools also.
